While many people are still enjoying the holiday season, hackers are hard at work, draining about $8 million from a BitKeep wallet attack that is still active.
On December 26, several BitKeep customers claimed that their cash were being drained and transferred when they were not using their wallets. The BitKeep team stated in their official Telegram channel that some APK package downloads had been hijacked by some attackers and installed with code implanted by hackers.
The BitKeep team advised users to move their funds to a wallet obtained from official sources such as Google Play and the Apple App Store. The company also requested that community members use newly generated wallet addresses because their prior ones have been “leaked to hackers.”
One alleged hacker wallet account holds almost $5 million in digital assets. While the total amount exploited is still not final, and the attackers are still transferring funds to multiple wallet addresses, blockchain security and analytics firm PeckShield reported that more than $8 million in Tether (USDT), DAI (DAI), Binance Coin (BNB), and Ether (ETH) has been stolen so far.
